Schlosstheater Schoenbrunn
1130 Wien

Blick Kaiserloge/Bühne
This copiously equipped imperial palace theatre was build in 1744-1749 for Empress Maria Theresia by Ferdinand Hetzendorf von Hohenberg. It is the oldest theatre of Vienna, that today can still be performed in and which can only be visited during performances. The French Emperor Napoleon, during those months, when he was conquering Vienna, on 4th and 30th August 1809, attended himself the opera "Schweizer Familie" (translated: Swiss Family), in those days of immediate interest. He used the proscenium box on the left side. Napoleon was so enthusiastic about the soprano Anna Milder-Hauptmann (performing as Emmeline), so that he wanted to commit her in Paris and offered her a very attracting contract. He said about Milder: "Voilà une voix, depuis longtemps je n'ai pas entendu une telle voix." (What a voice, since long time I haven't heard such a voice.)
